Health
A person's health is incredibly important for living an active, comfortable and fulfilling life because a healthy person is a happy, productive and positive in attitude and outlook.
This section of the website contains a collection of informative articles covering many aspects of this huge subject.
There are a number of reasons why people these days are becoming increasingly more overweight than they ever did in the past.
A big part of the blame lies in a poor diet of food laden with too much sugar and unhealthy fats.
But there is also a decline in the amount of exercise each person gets as part of their daily routine and that exacerbates the situation because it generally results in a lowering of peoples' metabolic rate, which leads to a slow down in the amount of energy the body uses and an increase in fat storage.
Walk and Be Healthy
There are many ways of improving a person's physical well being and maintaining a good level of health.
Eating the right foods, keeping properly hydrated and getting plenty of physical activity each day are among the most important of these.
A big problem many people have is that while they have access to wholesome fresh food and abundant clean water, they often miss these altogether in favour of all the junk food and sugar-laden, flavored drinks that are thrust in front of them through clever advertising. Worse, is that a bad diet is compounded by lack of physical activity because people are leading a more sedentary lifestyle than ever before.
In this day and age, people tend to walk less as more of them use cars or motorbikes to get from A to B even when the distances are quite short. It is a shame, because often those distances could be walked in under half an hour and the people that are not doing it are robbing themselves of an easy and enjoyable way of improving their health.
Fresh Air and Daylight
Walking in the fresh air is a truly enjoyable and rewarding past time.
If you have a dog, it's even more rewarding because you both get to exercise more while you get the chance to see more of your neighbourhood and meet new people. Being outdoors provides you with some exposure to natural sunlight, which is essential to enable the body to manufacture its own vitamin D.
A lack of this vitamin is linked with weight gain as well as poor uptake of calcium leading to problems such as osteoporosis in later life. But even if you don't own a dog, getting out of the house to go for a walk each day is just so worth it for the boost it gives to general health and fitness.
Don't Take Walking for Granted
It is a strange thing that many people consider walking as something that is only ever done in short bursts.
Like from the front door to the car, from the car to the store, from the store to the car and then from the car back to the front door.
Not only is it a strange way of living, it completely bypasses the wonderful physical resource that enables those who are lucky enough to have the full use of their legs to go walking for better health. This is a gift that far too many people take for granted and as a result are simply missing out on the opportunity to be fitter and healthier.
If you take the viewpoint of a person confined to a wheelchair, they see millions of lazy people who are so ungrateful for their physical completeness. It must frustrate them indeed to see those people shun walking anywhere because it is just too much effort.
I think those lucky people might see things a little differently if that ability were to be taken away from them. The morale is: "Don't take your health and well being for granted!"
