Slimming Tea
There is a lot of interest in slimming tea drinks that are supposed to help you to lose weight and burn belly fat, so let's look at what all the fuss is about.
A lot of people around the world like to enjoy drinking a cup of tea (or several) during the day.
There are many different types of "tea" to choose from, but they all have certain health-bringing properties that are of interest to us.
So let us look at the main types in a little more detail and see what benefits we can gain from drinking them.
Tea (from the tea plant)
The tea that most people associate with is that brewed from the dried leaves of the tea plant.
Of this, there are a number of sub-types that are all worth looking at for their health benefits and great taste. The main types are black tea, green tea, white tea, oolong tea and the different infusions made with complementing herbs.
It should be noted that all teas made from the Camellia sinensis plant will contain varying levels of caffeine. So while they are often considered a relaxing beverage to enjoy, they also act as a stimulant, which is why moderation in their consumption is recommended.
All the teas mentioned below can aid in slimming and many studies have been undertaken over the years to back up this outcome. It should be noted that a person's diet should also be adjusted to avoid processed foods and those containing high levels of sugars, processed carbohydrates, seed oils and processed starches.
When combined, a healthy, whole food diet and the consumption of tea (in moderation) can be used as an effective slimming protocol, boosted even more with ths addition of moderate exercises of your choice.
Black Tea
This is arguably the most popular form and is very popular in the UK, India, Australia and New Zealand.
It is made from the dried and fermented leaves of the tea plant that are allowwd to dry to the point where they turn a very dark brown color. Boiling water is poured over the leaves and it is left to brew for a minute or longer, depending on how strong you personally like it.
Most tea drinkers add milk to their black tea. This has the effect of reducing the bitterness from the tannins found in the leaves. Many people also like to add sugar to produce a sweet, milky beverage that is particularly favored by younger drinkers.
The bare bones tea, with nothing added is rich in antioxidants, flavanoids and polyphenols that are health giving and protective of our bodies.
The problem for most black tea drinkers is that adding milk has the effect of binding those flavanoids and polyphenols and making them unavailable to the body. To make matters worse, the addition of sugar to the tea creates its own problems from causing damage to the teeth to weight gain and elevated insulin levels.
To get the maximum health benefits from drinking black tea, it should be consumed without anything added!
Green Tea
This is the version favored by the Chinese and it is in fact considered a medicinal drink as well as a socially enjoyed beverage.
When the tea teaves are dried, the drying process is stopped before the leaves change color, so they retain the green that gives this tea its name. All the beneficial molecules present in black tea are also present in green tea.
Daily consumption has been associated with improved health, lower risk of developing health issues ranging from metabolic issues to cancer. Green tea is popularly consumed without anything added, providing the best environment for the body to absorb all the beneficial compounds and make the best use of them.
Ooolong Tea
This tea, produced in China is somewhere between green and black tea, being partially oxidized (between about 15% to 85%) giving it a wider flavor than the other two types.
It possesses the same healthy beneficial compounds present in black and green teas and for similar reasons is best taken without added milk or sugar.
White Tea
White tea is made from tea leaves that are harvested before the plant's leaves open fully and young buds are covered with fine white hairs, which give this tea its name.
Being the least processed of all teas, it is favored by many for its purity and milder flavor. It is made from the youngest buds and tender leaves of the Camellia sinensis plant that are withered and dried.
Its minimal processing preserves a delicate, naturally sweet flavor while maintaining a high concentration of beneficial antioxidants, flavanoids and polyphenols intact.
Matcha Tea
This is a Japanese green tea that is made by pulverizing the leaves into a powder that is then mixed with hot water to create the flavorsome beverage that is very popular these days.
Matcha tea contains the highest levels of flavanoida and polyphenols, chiefly because the whole leaves are consumed in powder form and nothing is wasted.
Summary
All teas (derived from brewing the dried leaves of the Camellia sinensis plant) are consumed around the world by millions of people who enjoy not only the calming, refreshing nature of the drink, but also the many health benefits.
These slimming teas are naturally beneficial for people wanting to lose weight as the combination of healthy compounds plus caffeine help to improve metabolism and increase fat burning and weight loss as long as a healthy whole food diet accompanies and high sugar, starch and processed foods are avoided where possible.
